Blueberries are superfood!

The Finnish forests are full of blueberries during this period so while I was in Finland we made a nice trip to the forest to pick blueberries.
Blueberries are actually now very “in” as they are considered superfood. (Superfoods are so named for the great number of beneficial nutrients they contain.)
Blueberries are very rich in beneficial nutrients.Blueberry has more anti-oxidants to combat illnesses than any other fruits or vegetables, and just the amount of antioxidants is the cause blueberry is “superfood”. Antioxidants protect us from a variety of free radicals and thereby prevent disease.Blueberries are also full of vitamins C and E, and their main health benefits are thought to come from anthocyanins – naturally occurring pigments that give them their blue colour and act as potent antioxidants. Thanks to their high antioxidant content, research shows they may also help to keep the heart healthy. Many studies have been promising, that blueberries could help the memory problems, or it could also be helpful in Alzheimer’s disease and it has also an anti-ageing effect.
Blueberries are low in fat and calories and contain fibre, making them a great addition to a healthy, slimming diet and they are really delicious.
I love blueberries!
